Gardens From Light - The Axis Of The Skies

"The Axis Of The Skies" is a huge 77-minute piece, loosely inspired by the H.P. Lovecraft story Polaris. It is designed to evoke a feeling of drifting in and out of a dream world, whilst simultaneously floating through space towards a dying star. It is divided into 5 pieces but is best enjoyed as a single long-form piece. It is divided into 5 pieces but is best enjoyed as a single long-form piece. Sparkling melodies; dark, droning environments and GFL's trademark use of field recordings are all there, changing around and guiding you through this journey. The climax of the piece is the fourth section, "Gravity Assist", with its slowly-evolving, harshly distorted parts changing to a very subtle and quiet passage leading into the final part of the work. Umor - Pralayaah (2011)

The Black Sabbath meets The Cure guitar-zing of this album really grabbed me by the gnards and pulled them up over my head. Thanks Stoner Mountain!

Horseback - Half Blood

One reviewer described their sound as being 'twangy.' Don't let that throw you off. There is a clean, angular aspect to some of the guitar-playing that I think sounds kind of post-punkish. But, the reviewer's choice of words, and the band's name aside, I just don't see them as attempting any kind of metal-country-and-western fusion. This is more proggy and kraut-rockish than Electric Wizard meets David Allan Coe. And it is really quite good.
